Abstract

|
.Lymph nodes and tonsiles of 20 cases with active tingible body macrophages were
examined by the peroxidase antiperoxidase (PAP) method using monospecific antibody against nervous system specific S-100 protein and Lysozyme.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. Tingible body macrophages of the germinal centers were devoid of the immunoreation products for S-100 protein and lysozyme.
2. The paracortical area of reactive lymph nodes showed a marked accumulation of S-100 protein containing dendritic shaped cells.
3. The detection S-100 protein in the nucleus and nuclear membrane suggested that interdigitating reticulum cells themselves synthesized S-100 protein.
These results showed a contrast between the tigible body macrophages and interdigitating reticulum cells, any macrophages by distributions of immunoreactive products for S-100 protein and lysozyme.
